Thanks to the excellent support from our volunteers, Office of International Students & Scholars (OISS), Graduate School and CSSA executive committee, CSSA AirPort Pickup Committee (APPC) successfully accomplished its commitment to new graduate students' orientation in 2011.
The APPC this year is composed of one chair (Yunlu Xue 'Sawyer') and five committee members (Jia Luo, Jiangyang Zhao, Sisu Xi, Xiang Zhou and Yu Zhu). The APPC this year is proud of building a highly effective and sustainable processing system and procedures based on previous years' experiences. The outcome of this system has also been proved to be marvelous.
This year, CSSA APPC received 195 eligible graduate students' information through OISS. 194 of the students were matched with volunteers, increasing about 20% compared to last year's figure. I-CAN helped to find volunteers for four of the students' pickup. The CSSA APPC tried its best to find volunteer for the one left student, but we are sorry we could not arrange for this student in the end, because the student registered late, and the arriving date is on one of our peak days of pickup.
This year, we have got 88 respectable driving/MetroLink volunteers, who are affiliated with WashU. Among them, 72 have been arranged by APPC to pick up at least one student from the airport by driving. Their excellent work has been proven to be reliable, important and honorable. We would like thank them all for their great dedication in serving our community here again.
For more detailed statistics of this year's airport pick up, please refer to the figures and tables attached with this report. In summary, we are glad to see that we have volunteers from a diverse school background (Figure 1), a good number of female volunteers (Figure 2), fairly distributed pickup load in this year's pickup (Figure 3), and a successful management of about 40 students' pickup on August 10th (Figure 4).
